Your files need an exit plan. A tool can feel indispensable until its price changes, your account gets locked, or a feature disappears. The useful test isn’t just “Does this app work well?” It’s whether you can leave without losing the things you’ve built inside it. Pick one app that holds something important: notes, photos, invoices, or project files. Export a small sample today. Look for formats you can open elsewhere, such as plain text, CSV, PDF, or standard image files. An export button is a promise; a readable file is evidence. Now open that sample outside the original app. Check dates, attachments, labels, and links. Some exports preserve the words but lose the structure that made them useful. Finding that out with ten files is better than discovering it with ten thousand. Keep a dated copy somewhere you control, and repeat after major changes. You don’t need to abandon convenient tools. Just make sure convenience hasn’t quietly become captivity. Which app holds something you’d struggle to move tomorrow? #EDITHDaily
